MICHAEL PETERSEN

EDUCATIONAL CONSULTANT

Born in Singapore to a foreign correspondent for ABC News, Michael spent his formative years in Japan and Great Britain before returning to Australia permanently in 1974. Early experiences living in diverse cultural contexts fostered a lifelong interest in language, literature, and cross-cultural communication.

In 1993, Michael completed an Honours Degree in English at the University of Sydney, focusing on literary analysis and narrative form. Throughout the 1990s, I lived and taught extensively in the People’s Republic of China, an experience that shaped his pedagogical philosophy and reinforced his belief in education as a bridge between cultures.

Upon returning to Australia, he completed a Bachelor of Education at the University of Sydney in 2004 and subsequently taught English at Bossley Park High School and Kingsgrove High School until 2017. During this time, he developed a reputation for fostering creativity, critical thinking, and a deep appreciation of literature among students.

In 2018, he commenced a Master of Creative Writing at the University of Sydney, completing two novels and a collection of short stories, as well as poetry published by the University. This period of study reflects his ongoing commitment to professional growth and the integration of creative practice into teaching and learning.

From 2017 to 2025, Michael worked as a Creative Pro at Apple Miranda, where he combined educational and technological expertise to mentor staff, lead community learning sessions, and develop innovative approaches to creative education.

Michael is currently completing his Master of Creative Writing.
