Step up to School

Step Up for School is our early childhood group program for children with developmental delay, autism and neurodivergent profiles who are preparing to start school. It brings together occupational therapists, speech pathologists and specialist early childhood educators as a genuine multidisciplinary team working with children and families toward real school readiness.

Offered in a range of formats, including 8 week programs during school terms and holiday intensive programs, including our school preparation group in January each year.

Every session works across six areas simultaneously, including language and literacy, numeracy, social and emotional development, gross motor, fine motor and self-help skills. All within a social context to build confidence to prepare a child for their transition to school.

Pre- and post- assessment measures, along with a final report, provide valuable information about a child’s current strengths and challenges, along with ongoing needs to inform future supports and what comes next.

The program aims to equip parents with the knowledge, skills and guidance to continue development outside of the sessions. Take-home activities ensure practice and further confidence is built to maximise growth and development.

Step Up for School is a program that is built on the philosophy that getting children ready for school means getting families and schools ready too. We believe that the transition into education should be a confident one for everyone involved! Skill development, fostering positive self-belief and providing the information and recommendations required to ensure current and future environments are prepared to meet a child’s individual needs are all part of the broader Step up to School Program goals.
